Description
Caster City’s Stem Caster Model 3 is a swivel caster made from stamped steel and bright zinc plated for long-lasting corrosion resistance. This stem caster uses a stem that inserts into equipment instead of a bolt-on plate and is offered in grip ring, threaded, expanding adapter, or square and round metal stems. The swivel section features two rows of ball bearings on hardened raceways for smooth and dependable swivel action. A metal dust cover protects the swivel raceways from dirt and dust. This caster uses a 3/8″ diameter bolt axle with a lock nut and a 1/2″ diameter rivet to secure the swivel assembly. Handles loads up to 350 lbs per caster depending on stem type. Features 1-1/4″ wide wheels. Multiple wheel and brake options are offered. Ideal for operating room equipment, surgical carts, and diagnostic stations with socket-type mounting. NSF listed.
This high quality maroon polyurethane caster wheel features an injection molded polyurethane tire mechanically bonded to a gray polyolefin center, designed for light duty applications requiring a compact 1.25″ wide wheel. The 60 Shore D durometer provides a harder, more durable tread with capacities up to 350 lbs per wheel. These non-marking, chemical-resistant caster wheels are especially suited for hospitals, food service, research laboratories, schools, bakeries and other institutional applications. They withstand exposure to many chemicals and solvents and roll easier than gray rubber on smooth floors. This caster wheel is and is available with annular ball bearings, or Delrin bearings. The temperature range is -20°F to 180°F. Available in 3″, 4″, and 5″ diameters. Injection molded caster wheels are not designed for heavy static load applications. Ideal for light duty hospital carts, food service equipment, and laboratory instruments.

FAQ
What is the Stem Caster Model 3 made of?
The Stem Caster Model 3 is constructed with stamped steel and bright zinc plated for corrosion resistance. It’s also available in Stainless Steel (Model 3) and Economy Stainless Steel (Model K3), both of which are NSF listed and RoHS compliant. The stainless steel version is buffed to a smooth reflective surface, and the economy version skips the dust cap and grease fitting for cost efficiency.
What are the mounting specifications for the Stem Caster Model 3?
This caster uses a stem mounting system, designed for a secure fit with a ⅜” diameter axle and a ½” diameter rivet holding the swivel caster together. Specific stem dimensions depend on your application, so check with Caster City for compatibility with your equipment.
What kind of wheels does the Stem Caster Model 3 use?
It features wheels with tread widths of 1-¼” or 1-½”. Multiple wheel options are available to suit different surfaces and load requirements. Contact Caster City for specific wheel material choices.
How durable is the Stem Caster Model 3?
The caster is built with two ball bearings on hardened raceways to ensure long life. The zinc-plated version includes a metal dust cap to protect the swivel raceways from dirt and dust. The stainless steel version adds two high-temperature white seals (rated -20°F to 450°F) and a grease fitting on the dust cover and axle for added durability.
Is the Stem Caster Model 3 suitable for high-temperature environments?
Yes, the stainless steel version of the Stem Caster Model 3 is designed with high-temperature white seals that can handle temperatures from -20°F to 450°F, making it ideal for demanding environments like food service or industrial settings.
What’s the difference between the Stainless Steel and Economy Stainless Steel versions?
The Stainless Steel Stem Caster Model 3 (S304 stainless steel) includes high-temperature seals, a grease fitting on the dust cover and axle, and a buffed reflective finish. The Economy Stainless Steel Model K3 is also made of S304 stainless steel but omits the dust cap and grease fitting for a more budget-friendly option while maintaining NSF listing and RoHS compliance.
Is the Stem Caster Model 3 NSF listed?
Yes, both the zinc-plated and stainless steel versions (including the Economy Model K3) are NSF listed, making them suitable for food service and other sanitary applications.
Can I use the Stem Caster Model 3 for heavy loads?
The Stem Caster Model 3 is designed for institutional use with robust construction, but load capacity depends on the specific wheel and stem configuration. Check with Caster City for load ratings based on your chosen wheel type and application.
Does the Stem Caster Model 3 come with a brake option?
Yes, multiple brake options are available for the Stem Caster Model 3. Contact Caster City to discuss which brake type best suits your needs.
How does the Stem Caster Model 3 compare to the Plate Caster Model 3?
The Stem Caster Model 3 shares the same construction, wheel options, and durability features as the Plate Caster Model 3 but uses a stem mount instead of a 2-3/8” x 3-5/8” mounting plate. The stem design is ideal for equipment where a plate mount isn’t feasible. Both are available in zinc-plated, stainless steel, and economy stainless steel versions, with the same NSF listing and RoHS compliance.
