316 Stainless Steel Casters Model 9. Capacity up to 1200 pounds per caster. These rugged cold forged casters are made from 316 Stainless Steel and are recommended only for manually moved applications. 316 stainless steel casters excel in highly corrosive environments such as marine applications, chemical processing plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing facilities (especially those using caustic cleaners or salt), water treatment facilities, and any setting where exposure to chlorides, acids, or harsh cleaning agents is routine – featuring robust 2-inch wide wheels that provide superior load distribution and stability while maintaining smooth, reliable performance in demanding conditions.

In the real world, the choice between 316 and 304 stainless steel comes down to the operating environment and exposure to corrosive elements. 316 stainless steel, with its higher nickel content and addition of molybdenum (2-3%), offers superior resistance to corrosive substances, particularly chlorides and high-salt environments. This makes it the go-to choice for marine applications, chemical processing, and anywhere that harsh cleaning agents or high concentrations of salt are present.
Think of it this way: while 304 stainless is like a good rain jacket, 316 stainless is like professional-grade diving equipment – it’s specifically engineered to withstand more aggressive conditions. The addition of molybdenum in 316 provides significantly better protection against pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in environments where chloride exposure is a concern. This is why you’ll see 316 stainless commonly used in marine environments, chemical plants, food processing facilities, and pharmaceutical manufacturing where cleaning agents and process chemicals would quickly deteriorate lesser grades of stainless steel.
However, this superior corrosion resistance comes at a higher cost, which is why 316 is typically reserved for applications where its enhanced properties are truly needed rather than used as a universal replacement for 304 stainless steel.
When purchased with Wheel Brakes, please note they are not designed to hold on inclines.
Total Lock Brake locks Swivel and Wheel.
Swivel Lock converts a swivel caster into a rigid caster for direct line travel.
Swivel Locks lock ONLY swivel, not the wheel.
